Your
Breath
What is breathwork, and what does it do?
Breathwork is any form of conscious breathing.
You can retrain your breath using various techniques and forms of breathwork. By bringing awareness to your breath, you can learn to breathe using the whole of your lungs.
Anxiety, stress, and physical health issues are all exacerbated – or even caused – by a poor breathing pattern.
Most of us learn dysfunctional breathing habits from early childhood. The good news is, this behaviour can be turned around through the coaching & retraining of your breath.
All you need is regular practice and commitment.
What is breath coaching?
A breathing coach looks at your breathing pattern. They uncover any dysfunctional breathing habits, and coach you into learning new ones. Your body will remember it wants to breathe well.
A breath coach guides you safely through a session that’s led by your breath. They hold the space and give you prompts. They help you release layers of trouble, and learn new breathing habits for your wellbeing.
Breathwork coaching is now routinely used by athletes, coaches, consultants, therapists, business owners/entrepreneurs, and holistic healers. They use different forms of breathwork to attain peak performance at every level of their work and personal lives.

What happens in a session?
In the first session, we’ll discuss what it is you’re looking for – deep-dive breathwork, or to retrain your day-to-day breath. It can also be a combination of the two.
We’ll discuss any questions you might have. Then I’ll look at your current breathing pattern, and assess how it needs to change.
In a functional breathwork coaching session:
I do a thorough assessment of your health and breath. This includes tests that I think are appropriate, which may include a breath-per-minute, a CO2 level test, and more. These, along with the results of your health questionnaire, help me to build a bigger picture of your breath functionality, and guide me to create the plan you need.
The test results also help you to understand more about your breath pattern, and you’ll learn the science behind why you have your particular breathing issues.
Then you’ll get a tailor-made plan, with a personalised breath exercise program including various techniques to retrain your breath. We’ll then meet up 3-4 weeks later to assess, adjust, and maybe add in more tools.
In a deep-dive breathwork coaching session:
After our initial discussion, where you can talk about the issues you’re facing, we go on a journey, with your breath as our guide.
In the space, you relax completely while I talk you through different breathing exercises, usually a conscious connected breathing technique.
During the session, I focus on you 100%. I allow that focus, plus my intuition, to show me which additional tools you need in that moment.
These might include:
Toning
Massage (self-massage if online)
Reiki
Affirmations/prompts
Sound healing
Music
At the end, you’ll have 10 minutes to come round, and to talk about anything that came up in the session. You’ll leave with guidance for after the session self-care, and a daily breath practice.
“I loved the Zoom session with Mel. I felt so safe and her instructions were clear and so well-guided, it was like having a session in real life... I’ve signed up for 3 more sessions and can’t wait!”

Like any wellbeing or health practice, the safety of breathwork depends on the facilitator.
For me as your breath coach, safety is my number one priority. I am fully trained in breathwork safeguarding. Safeguarding is vital for groups and workshops, to ensure that everybody can release emotions safely.
For personal deep-dive sessions – and for functional breath coaching – you need to be able to trust me. I understand that. If you have any questions, please email me or get in touch via my contact page. I have found many teenagers who don't want to talk about a trauma do well with breathwork healing, as there is no talking involved.

For functional breathwork, as few as 3 appointments can dramatically change your life.
But YOU have to commit to the work. Only YOU can change your breath pattern.
The clients who transform are the ones who commit.
For deep-dive breathwork, it depends on you, and the issues you want help with. Some clients visit once a month, others come more occasionally. Some visit for a one-off. Whatever you need is fine.

I run online workshops every few months, using Conscious Connected Breathing. You get to experience the deep, healing power of breathwork, within an intimate group.
You don’t need any experience to join a workshop, just an open heart and an open mind. You may experience a lightening of tension, trauma release, or greater spiritual awareness.
I also run private group sessions face to face. Check my bookings page for more information.

I love helping children (over the age of 8) and teenagers retrain their breath. I’m passionate about young people learning to breathe. It’s why I’m a co-director at School Breathe.
Email me to ask any questions you like.
“Mel made my son feel welcome with her friendly and calming nature and explained everything in an easy-to-understand way... We left feeling excited about what the outcome will be from transforming him to a mouth to nasal breather.
Oh and the heated mattress on the floor was a winner!!!”
